Christmas Song of the Day: “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
“Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, debuted on the Eddie Cantor Radio Show in 1934. In 1970,
an animated special featuring Fred Astaire hit the small screen and on December 12, 1975, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band recorded the tune at C. W. Post College in Greenvale, NY. Over the years it has become one of the most popular holiday tunes ever recorded.
The classic version was released on a Columbia children’s songs complilation disc called “In Harmony 2″ in 1982 and as the b-side of the “My Hometown” single in 1985. It was recently re-released on CD and through iTunes. This video is from a show in Cleveland in Sept. 1978.
