Bob Dylan Scores No. 1 Album
Bob Dylan’s Together Through Life has entered both the U.S. and U.K. album charts at No. 1, marking the artist’s second consecutive U.S. #1 debut and his first chart-topping release in the U.K. since New Morning in 1970. Not only that, Together Through Life debuted at No. 1 in Austria and Denmark, the Top 5 in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Holland, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and New Zealand, and the Top 10 in Italy, France and Belgium.
To grab the top spot, Dylan had to knock Miley Cyrus out of the way – and that’s the way it should be. This gives Dylan back-to-back No. 1 albums, as Modern Times bowed at the top in 2006. And of course, this is a depressed industry so Dylan only had to sell 125,000 copies during the first week for the album to hit the top spot. Nevertheless, this is Bob’s fifth No. 1 debut on the album charts, and if we’re not mistaken, he’s still the oldest artist ever to top the album charts.
“Beyond Here Lies Nothin’,” the first track on Together Through Life, is serving as the soundtrack for a series of on-air and online promotional spots for the second season of HBO’s vampire series “True Blood.” The promotional spots can be viewed here.
A short film for “Beyond Here Lies Nothin'” has been lensed by AFI and Sundance Film Festival award winning director Nash Edgerton, and will be seen on the IFC Channel and on IFC.com, beginning Tuesday, May 12.
