Video Du Jour: Sugarland and Sara Bareilles
We’re not a big fan of either artist here – God knows, Sugarland’s brand of pop country is pretty awful. But there’s an energy here that warrants at least one viewing. Bareilles, on tour with Sugarland, joins Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush for a stomping version of Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ “Come On, Eileen.”

That these mooks can do a (really) credible job shows the power of great songwriting. Glad they brought this to a new generation, but, in the face of Jason (Now-I-have-to-wash-my-mouth-out-with-soap-for-uttering-his-name) Aldean at the top of the charts with his ludicrous rap song, can songwriting survive?

Have faith, my friend. For every five of these clowns there’s one Justin Townes Earle, a Jakob Dylan and maybe an old guy finally making it, like Alejandro Escovedo.
