It’s official – Bun B Day in Houston
One day, you can tell your kids where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news: the city of Houston declared Tuesday, August 30 as “Bun B Day.” The rapper was on hand at a Houston City Council meeting yesterday to receive a formal proclamation from Mayor (and Queen of Trill) Annise Parker.
Bun B, a native of Port Arthur, Texas, has been a leading force in the Southern hip hop movement since the 90’s but he’s also known for his work in the community. He’s volunteered his time and also teaches a course on religion and hip hop at Rice University. Professor Bun is one half of the iconic rap group UGK with the late Pimp C and he has had great success as solo artist as well.
Naturally the Tweetsphere was filled with congrats and shoutouts for the Big Homie on his H-Town holiday, but there was a bit of grumbling that Port Arthur has yet to honor its own with a Bun B Day in the Golden Tri. “I don’t decide when and where I get a day,” Bun tweeted on @BunBTrillOG. ” The city of PA and the mayor chose not to honor UGK, Pimp C or me.”
