Christmas Song of the Day: “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Posted in Christmas with tags , , , , , , , on December 11, 2009 by 30daysout

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, debuted  on the Eddie Cantor Radio Show in 1934. In 1970, an animated special featuring Fred Astaire hit the small screen and on December 12, 1975, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band recorded the tune at C. W. Post College in Greenvale, NY. Over the years it has become one of the most popular holiday tunes ever recorded.

The classic version was released on a Columbia children’s songs complilation disc called “In Harmony 2” in 1982 and as the b-side of the “My Hometown” single in 1985. It was recently re-released on CD and through iTunes. This video is from a show in Cleveland in Sept. 1978.

Free Download Alert! – “We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” Gary “US” Bonds

Posted in News with tags , , on December 5, 2008 by 30daysout

The one and only Gary “US” Bonds is offering a free download of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” on his website. This is not the lame “figgy pudding” version you hear at your kid’s Christmas program. It’s a full on rock and roll assault complete with a sax solo and Bonds encouraging everyone “to get in gear and party out the rest of the year.” Free is always good, and you won’t be disappointed with this download. Thanks to our friends at Backstreets Magazine for the tip.
