For many decades now, Texas has been in love with its idiosyncratic singer/songwriters.  Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Doug Sahm, Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock are the brightest stars in a musical galaxy that shines from deep in the heart of the Lone Star state.

At the same time ol’ Willie was selling out the second of his two nights at the brand-new House of Blues in downtown Houston, a few thousand of us decided to kick back on the grassy knoll of Miller Outdoor Theater for a considerably mellower evening with Jerry Jeff and the Ely-Gilmore-Hancock conglomerate otherwise known as the Flatlanders.
