Here’s a nice way to begin the weekend: the new video from alt-pop supergroup Monsters of Folk – M. Ward, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Conor “Bright Eyes” Oberst and producer Mike Mogus.  What is it?  Philly soul trippin’?  Psychedelic panty dropping music?  Judge for yourself, and have a great springtime weekend.

Notes from SXSW 2008, Part 2

A hot parking lot was an unlikely venue at SXSW for She & Him, the folk-pop duo of M Ward and indie-movie queen Zooey Deschanel.  Kind of strange to see so many moms (with kids in tow) right off Austin’s crazy Sixth Street, but She & Him have a solid buzz that’s aimed right at that audience.  And with a full band, they sounded just fine – Zooey’s songs are pretty, straightforward 70s folk and they go down easy with her smoky voice poured on top.  You can hear their three-song set at Minnesota Public Radio’s live broadcast site at The Current
